Bicycle Project

This program has been established since December 2006. Ten bicycles were purchased by Signs of Hope in Africa and donated to the village pre-schools.  Rather than walking the 1-3km each way to work the pre-school teachers now have another way to get to work, they can cycle.  Every morning when the bicycles have arrived at the pre school, the farmers living in the vicinity can then use the bicycles to ride to their shamba (farms) rather than having to walk the 3-6km round trip.  The use of a bicycle for transportation allows the pre-school teachers to spend more time at home as conserves their energy for their students who are eager to learn each day.  The farmers, who have very minimal tools in which to farm their land, have more time at their shamba yet still be gone from home the same amount of time.  The round trip to their shamba which was once taking them an hour and a half to walk, now only takes them 30-45 minutes on the bicycle.

If any tourists come to the village they are able to rent the bicycles from the pre schools thus providing a small income for the teachers to purchase classroom materials and supplies.  It is a Win/Win/Win for all involved.

Bicycles, apart from walking, are the main mode of transportation around this 5km long village.  With your donation, Signs of Hope in Africa can purchase more bicycles to support further transportation collaborations within the village.
